Crazy weather this week

Yes, this past week has been great excitement for weather dorks in Austin. We had 2 days of crazy ass weather, even though we did not got hail on the day the northies did. I did wake up Friday morning to hail on my windows, but I was too sleepy to grab the camera. Plus I had to nurse Sue. She goes completely nuts during thunderstorms. She was under my robe for hours shaking.

Here are a few snaps I took of the downpour.

You may look at these pics and say it's only rain, but during this drought, anything gets me excited.
Due to this fabulous rain, we made the decision to go to Lowe's on Sunday and buy the veggies for the garden. A few hours later, we are all done and it's looks great!

We had fantastic success with our tomatoes last year, so we planted 3 different varieties.

Matt got thirsty after we spread mulch.  (Sounds kinda naughty huh?  Spreading mulch?  Ok, maybe it's just me.)  Anyways, here's Matt in drinking-from-the-hose-mode.

Not to be outdone by Matt's attention whoring, Colotte had to do the damnest cutest shit like smell the flowers.

We bought her a catnip plant and after I got it in the ground, she came running outside and sat on it 3 times.  I don't think it will last very long.

Instant Gratification

I wanted to crochet something fast and easy today.  I let my mind wander and worked without a pattern.  Here it is.

I also learned how to "block" a project.  I have these other black and white flower coasters that always curl up.  Finally I decided to give the method a try and what do you know....all the flower petals are firmly flat on the table.

"Blocking" is just basically spraying the project with starch and ironing it flat with a thin towel placed on top to keep it from sticking/burning.  Works like a champ!

My HUGE WIP

For all of you normal, non-craft geeks who are confused by the term above, it is:  Work In Progress.

I honestly don't have very many lying around as I hate to not finish a project.  But I have one. It's a big one.  Last year I wanted to make a festival blanket for Matt around ACL time.  It did not get done due to my lack of motivation during the Summer.  But now I am renewed. Hopefully I can get this one done soon and move onto my next plan.  Here is an photo example of my upcoming project.

This is called a starghan. You can do any color combination imaginable. I haven't figured out which colors I want to try and if I should sell it or keep it for myself. It would be a fabulous baby gift I suppose.

Here is Matt's festival blanket.  It's getting there.  Eventually.  Hopefully.  Soon.

Random Weekend Photos

Most of my recent photos can be found on my Facebook, but here are some I really enjoyed.

Dana and Matt at Sarah's 30th birthday party.

Everyone loves Jagger birthday shots right?

Maybe not so much.

Free beers makes all the girls smile!

Yes that is a velvet Last Supper dress.  It's my pride and joy.

The BEST Mexican food I have ever had on the East side.  Las Cazuelas rules.

Hmmm... the restaurant's pet or tomorrow's lunch?

The Flower Post

I'm thrilled with all the flowers blooming at our place. THRILLED I tell you.

Fletcher's Birthday

Our favorite youngster, Fletcher, turned the big 3 Saturday. We stopped by Wes and Sara's and took some pictures of the festivities. Thanks for the cake. The strawberry ice cream hit the spot after a day of SXSW!

Daddy let Fletcher lick the icing off the train.

This makes me happy

Two nights out for dinner...

Man, I have been a lucky girl recently. Matt and I have taken advantage of Austin Restaurant Week and tried two new places yesterday and today.

Yesterday we met our Uncle Bill and tried out Botticceli's. We had an amazing dinner with outstanding service and delicious food.

Tonight we visited Paggi House with Anthony and Lindsay. Mmmmmm another fantastic meal. We have never tried either places so we were pleasantly surprised by both.

You can read my Yelp reviews maybe tomorrow where I will go into more detail. For now, just take my word on it.

Recently there have been a few things on my mind that are KILLING me. Seriously I'm hating the following:

*The Reeds commercial. Please stop. I hate that jingle. It gets stuck in my head for hours and hours. I want to rip off her mole.
*Perez Hilton. I used to adore his self-righteous gossip, but lately I am seeing thru his facade. Sucking up to the celebrities that give him the time of day. I miss the old Perez who hated on everyone. Please don't come to Austin for SXSW. You'll ruin our town.
*Britney's snatch. Ok, enough already. I have seen the clip 9283428736 times. Yep, you can't take the white trash out of the girl regardless of rehab, daddy's conservatorship or money.
*Octomom. Enough said.
*Celebrity gossip in a nutshell.  I'm just getting bored with it all.  Nothing is amusing me.  Except Dlisted.  I love me some of that shit.
*Not finding a job.  I don't really hate it, but I hate that there is nothing out there getting me excited.

Things that are getting me EXCITED:
*The weather change.  Yep, total dork.
*My first time going to SXSW without dealing with a shitty job that won't let me off.
*Solitare on my Iphone.
*Twitter.  I like it.  I'm not sure what I think about the people adding me whom I have NO IDEA how they found me.  It's strange.
*Planting veggies and flowers in the garden.
*Crocheting, of course.
*Getting back into reading.  (speaking of, I just finished the Time Traveler's Wife.  It was awesome!)

Ok, I think I'm done.  *Rant off*

Smoothies smoothies

I love homemade smoothies.  I do miss the WF ones I used to get with spirulina, but these are cheaper.

My preferred ingredients are frozen fruit (easy to store, never goes bad), White Mountain yogurt, a touch of honey and apple juice. I ran out of yogurt and honey so I just used juice and fruit. It's not thick at all, but that's ok. Fruity goodness does a body good. And did I mention it's cheap?

I'm a hater

Ok, so I have this secret obsession to see Britney Spears fall flat on her face and bomb her tour.  Recently, the reviews have been mixed.  I spent hours waiting on Perez Hilton's review of Circus and he just ended up sucking her dick the whole time.  Of course Britney's people gave him tickets and showcased him in one of her videos, there is no way he is going to kill that cash cow.  But what kills me are the positive reviews of her "banging" body.  You mean this one?

Yah Yah Yah I found the most unflattering pics I could.  I know this.  But it looks like someone has her outfits made a  little too tight.  And yes she looks so much better than months ago, but "banging, smoking hot?"  Not yet honey.

I feel the reason I dislike her stems a lot on her parents actions of putting her back in the spotlight.  She is obviously mentally unstable and needs to spend time away from the public and be a mom to her children.  But no, Britney goes on tour and bring her kids along??  Wow, she's the cool mom.

I just don't hate on Brit Brit.  I hate HoHan and Wonky too.

I took these outside a few minutes ago.  I guess my camera can do neat things after all.

Flowering catulpa

Our tree wedding favor is finally sprouting! We planted it 3 weeks
ago and 3 buds are already making their way to the surface. Can't
wait to see them get bigger!!
